Poem analysis help ...?
In english I just read "In the dome car of the Canadian" by Sid marty. And the question asks that on a figurative level is the poem about another journey? and to quote lines for support. BUT I am horrible at poetry, any help ?
This is the poem :
The mongoloid boy is astounded
with joy at terrific
white-fanged mountains
the shinning makes him cry aloud
Tunnels through stone to him
are mysteries, are happy as the womb
And equally happy to him alone
embraced by folly's equanimity
was high birth in this bright world
He claps his hand over his mouth
and moans with ecstasy
to be swallowed whole again
then borne into the glimmering light
These boats along the Fraser
trailing their glistening sweepers
of logs along the river
are arks of all creation
rocking on the dappled water
Oh passengers, you travellers
may strain your eyes to blindess
but never again you'll see
what he is seeing
As he dances in the aisles, for joy.
The poet is stuck by the unadulterated joy displayed by the child in the dome car. He sees the beauty of the scenery and is transformed by the experience. The jaded other passengers are merely sight seeing, the child is embracing this journey of rebirth, joy and discovery.
