Help! How can I let go of my childhood toys?
i am a very nostalgic person and since i need a lot more room in my house i desparartly need to shift a whole wardrobe of stuffed teddies!
some hold no sentimental value and are going straight to the charity shop.
i really dont have the space to keep them all, but there are so many i find hard to part with, and not enough young relatives to donate them to!
does anyone have any advice? should i store them in the attic or bite the bullet? help!
Bite the bullet. Decide how many you can realistically keep in your house (one on each pillow or something), and... make that choice.
You may need to ask someone else to do the bagging up and throwing away for you, if you can't make yourself do it! No shame in that.
If you're one of these with a secret deep-down belief that they're in some way "alive" and will e.g. suffer, get lonely, not go to a good home etc, your best bet is to see if somewhere like a local hospital will take them instead of the charity shop. Then you'll know that they will go in a pile in a room with lots of kids around and one day each of them will be the "perfect" toy for a child patient, even if only for a day or two until they leave - and if you think about it, that's the kind of life a toy would like, right? Certainly better than being bagged up and put in the attic. I mean come on, you will NEVER really use or love them again... what do they have to look forward to, you getting them out for an afternoon once every couple of years?
The hospital route has one added advantage over a charity shop - you won't be tempted to buy them back again!
Why not take photos of them before they go? Then you'll still have a focus for the nostalgia.
[Edit: I like Tapestry's idea of e-Bay as well. If you have anything that's in good enough condition or was a rare or speciality toy, that would be a great way to make sure it'll not just get thrown on a landfill site.]
